Consultant Engineer in High Pressure Fluid Systems

The Opportunity and the Applicant


We have an opportunity for a highly experienced engineer in the field of high pressure, high temperature and hazardous fluid systems.  You will need to have experience in hydraulic fluid power systems, hot and cold pressurised water systems, and systems involving hazardous fluids at extreme environmental conditions. You will have to have had a sound practical background in the design, fabrication and site installation of equipment in a wide variety of field applications. The position also calls for managerial responsibilities in the running of projects involving teams of engineers both within the company and client locations throughout the world. The successful applicant will have to have experience of working on safety critical systems in oil & gas, petrochemical, nuclear, aerospace and military applications. You should have a fundamental grasp of thermodynamics, mechanical engineering, compressible flow, high velocity fluid streams. It is also necessary to understand the instrumentation, measurement, control, and data acquisition systems associated with modern plant and equipment operating in both industrial and hazardous site conditions.


The applicant


The ideal candidate will have:

  • First class honours degree in mechanical engineering or master’s degree in a fluid systems related topic.
  • Experience of working on safety critical systems in hazardous applications
  • Knowledge of industry standards, guidelines and practices associated with the design and operation of high pressure systems.
  • Familiarity with fluid thermodynamics and applications in heat transfer, power generation, cryogenics, power transmission.
  • Understanding of system cleanliness, measurement and control.
  • Experience or a desire to work on engineering problems involving HPHT systems.
  • Already have a proven track record with successfully managing technically complex projects.
  • Experienced in building, managing and motivating project teams and relationships with clients.
  • Able to work with industry recognised project management tools to assure its successful completion.
  • Take corrective actions in projects and communicate progress at internal business level and with the client.
  • A self starter with the potential to identify cost effective solutions to our client’s problems.
  • A good communicator, capable of explaining complex technical issues in simple terms.
  • Able to organise themselves to prioritise competing targets.
  • Enthusiastic and committed, with a can-do attitude, willing to work within tight schedules on his own or as part of a team.

The role will involve:


 

  • Managing and performing consultancy projects in fluid engineering
  • Specialist consultancy on high pressure/high temperature and hazardous fluid related projects
  • Design and construction of high pressure fluid systems for test and development projects
  • Applying skills to a variety of fluid engineering based industrial processes and undertaking consultancy work including proposal writing and the presentation of papers at conferences.
  • Leading and working in teams that are developing test facilities to perform qualification of components and to generate data or validate mathematical models.
  • The opportunity to lead small dedicated teams on cutting edge projects within the renewable energy, lubricants and nanotechnology sectors with a world recognised expert in fluid engineering consultancy and research.
