DesalinationDesalination

The process of desalination has become one of the key technologies employed in the production of drinking and industrial usage water in water scarce regions worldwide.

Whilst Reverse Osmosis Membrane Technology is at the core of the desalination process, it can not provide safe drinking water alone.  To guarantee an efficient plant it is necessary to look at all the steps involved in the desalination process.

Expertise

BHR Group has the expertise and experience to assist with the design of:

 Desalination

  • Seawater Intake – hydraulic design of the intake system and pumping station utilising CFD or physical modelling
  • Pre-treatment – often performed utilising traditional water treatment processes, the optimisation of dosing and mixing can have a direct impact on plant performance and cost savings through chemical reduction.
  • Post-treatment – water conditioning of permeate prior to end usage
  • Brine disposal - hydraulic design of the brine outfall system utilising CFD or physical modelling
  • Delivery pipeline – surge analysis of pipework and associated components through the desalination plant and downstream delivery pipework; recommendations for surge protection if required.
  • Trouble-shooting – ‘Red Tide’ is a problem seen in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region which can cause fouling of screens and membranes having major implications for performance and production of the plant.  Optimisation of the intake and screens can reduce fouling and minimise downtime of the plant.
