Elastomer Seal Life Measurement
The Elastomer Life test facility allows for the immersion of elastomer components in flammable and toxic fluids to replicate in-service conditions. The rig is dedicated to analysing the effects of fluid absorption into seals under pressure, and the subsequent evaporation, which can result in the relaxation of critical dimensions and premature failure of the seal.
The results of these accelerated life tests can be used to assess the long term sealing performance of a wide range of elastomer materials. Seals can also be pre-aged for use in further test procedures. In addition, data from this rig is input into computer models and simulations as part of our ongoing seal materials research programme.
