Our DOMINO consortium has a brand new website

The Dispersion of Nanoparticles in Liquids Consortium (DOMINO) is one of the three industrially steered research consortia that we are run at BHR Group. Its purpose is the development of industrially relevant research, and best guideline practises, for the dispersion of nanoparticles and the delamination of nanoclays in liquids.

Please visit the
new website of the DOMINO Consortium where you can find out more about the research, the current members and how you could benefit from membership.

Rotary sea rigMechanical Seals

We have two specialised seal material testing rigs, each comprising a static seal to rotating seal interface within an environmental chamber. Temperature, interface rotary speed and interface axial load can all be controlled.  Internal fluid pressurisation minimises hydrostatic and hydrodynamic effects allowing face material effects to dominate.  This allows precise and detailed material performance data to be obtained.

The rig is primarily used to obtain comparative data for a wide range of seal materials, and can also be used for endurance testing purposes.

Mech seal

Fluids: Water, coolants, hydrocarbons
Temperature: Up to 100 C
Interface load: Up to 10 Mpa
Speed: Up to 6,000 rpm
Shaft sizes: Approx. 40mm diameter, other sizes by special arrangement
Measurements: Interface friction, face temperature, leakage, end thrust, tribological assessment
