Tunnels Conference Forum goes live
Our first ever online conference forum supports the forthcoming 14th International Symposium on Aerodynamics and Ventilation of Tunnels.
The forum allows symposium delegates and anyone else with an interest in the subject of tunnel aerodynamics and ventilation to share views and contribute to ongoing discussions. The aim is to promote engagement and understanding with this interactive facility before, during and after the symposium. Over time we hope that it will become a valuable resource for stakeholders throughout the tunnelling community.
With services like the forum we are making it easier for everyone to be involved. The interactive nature of the forum should help to promote some lively debate on the various subjects. Topic areas include Ventilation Plant & Control Systems, Pure Aerodynamics, Simulation, and a special section dedicated to the symposium.
Anyone can view the forum and its content but only registered users can add their own comments or participate in discussions. Registration is free and open to all.

The first publication from our consortium DOMINO is accepted for publication in The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering.
"Power and Flow Characteristics of Three Rotor-stator Heads" by Gül Özcan-Taşkın, Gustavo Padron and Dominik Kubicki is based on the work carried out within DOMINO- the most recent industrial consortium set up at BHR Group (with a link to the DOMINO page when they click on the word DOMINO). The study is part of a large programme investigating the break up of nanoparticle clusters in liquids. Findings from experimental and numerical studies on the power and flow characteristics of three types of in-line rotor-stators were first presented during NAMF (North American Mixing Forum) in Victoria, Canada- June 2010. The above journal paper will shortly be published in the special addition of The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering containing several other presentations from this conference.

Ring Out The Old Ring In The New
It is with a mixture of gratitude and sadness that we bid farewell to Alasdair Maclean who after 18 years has stepped down as Chairman and non-executive director of BHR Group Limited. As an independent voice on the Board he has managed to offer both a unique perspective on the value of BHR to our customers, while also playing a vital role in steering the company through some difficult times. His experience as a senior business executive gained over many years with organisations as diverse at Yorkshire Water and the Shirley Institute have been invaluable in directing the Group to respond to the rapidly changing needs of both business and regulators. It is a fitting legacy to his shrewd guidance that he has made sure that the Group is in the healthiest position it has been in for over a decade. So while we look forward with confidence to a bright future, we thank Alasdair and offer him and his family our sincerest best wishes and a happy retirement. We also take this opportunity to say a final farewell to Alistair Muir who having stepped down as Chief Executive of the Group 2 years ago, has now decided to retire. Alistair joined the Group as Financial Director in 1987 and was appointed Chief Executive in 2002. In 1994 he also became our Conference Director and has over the last 2 years continued to work in that role in a part time capacity. During this time he has overseen the successful handover of what was formally our Conferences department, to our rebranded Academy department. Once again the directors and staff thank Alistair for his contribution and commitment to the Group and wish him and his family a long and health retirement. Last but not least we welcome back Ruth Wallsgrove as a non-executive director of the Board. Ruth has recently returned to the UK following an extended term in Australia where she was General Manager, Strategic Asset Management at Railcorp in New South Wales. Formerly a Director of the British Institute of Asset Management, she oversaw the first UK edition of the International Infrastructure Management Manual. She is an acknowledged expert in the field of information strategy where she takes a non-technical, business related viewpoint - strengths that she will need in her new role at BHR Group Limited.
