PHYSICAL MODELLING

Physical model testing of civil engineering structures adds confidence to design. Models cost little compared to overall scheme construction costs and consequential costs of failures. Model studies undertaken early in the product cycle can lead to greater hydraulic efficiency, improved safety and reliability and associated reductions in capital costs.

The Facility

BHR Group has a large and dedicated test facility to study the flow behaviour through civil engineering structures. Using the appropriate tools and scaling laws, physical models can be used to measure and assess flow distribution, velocity and pressure variations, flow patterns, sediment deposition, scour and air entrainment.

Plant design is optimised and performance verified to international standards by a multi-disciplinary team of specialist engineers. BHR Group also offers an up-front design service to eliminate serious hydraulic and process performance problems prior to the model study.
